It's been a little over 9 years since I've used this and I'm surprised that it's still alive. I would be really surprised if anyone is even using personal blogs anymore or if this catches wind from any of my subscribers from years back only because Facebook and other social media streams are popularly used recently. I just don't like it because of the nature of thoughts being shared and limited to the amount of characters allowed -- micro-blogging as I believe is what it's referred to.
In any case...
The protests are still going on and I feel like I've been reading and watching a good number of documentaries to understand our history along with theories that have been proposed in the science world.
Within the past 24 hours, I've watched the movies The Mandella Effect and The Experimenter. I feel like it can be argued that it's not relevant at this time but I would stand by that it absolutely is. At the start of this movement, I had thought about the book 1984, and as more racial discrimination came to light, I thought of the movie Crash.
(I definitely do have a theme with the movies and books that I choose to read...)
But really it was more of a shock... I thought people would have at least read and watched these movies and learned that racial discrimination was wrong and re-writing history does exist so we must preserve our knowledge the best we can and not follow blindly.
There are clearly much more to the contexts of both book and movie and writing about it in this manner won't do it must justice. I think I would benefit from having a group of friends who I can share these ideas with but I'm always stuck wondering if I'm overthinking things and burdening them with my thoughts and how random it is. Perhaps that's another aspect of our society these days, in that, we only want to talk to others and share things that are pleasant and give reason to rejoice as opposed to talking to things that are controversial and might bring up rather dark and deep thoughts.
Hence... blogging I guess? Thanks for continuing to make it a choice to read my blog and sharing your thoughts if you so choose.
This is something I wanted to post earlier on Facebook as a result of overhearing a comment I heard this weekend about Juneteenth. When asked if my company had made it a holiday and I responded with a no, the statement following was, "I've never heard of it." and so:
Just because you haven’t heard of it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist, right?
[I feel like as I’m moving from city to city, I’m learning more and more about different cultures and social norms all the time.
Be open-minded and choose to learn from your community and be open to also share your experiences. Do you even know your neighbor’s story? Do your neighbors know your story?
For example... I’m still discovering that more and more people who I meet in San Diego actually brew their own beer just as much as I know a handful of people who are brewing their own coffee in San Francisco. It might be a norm for some, but completely new to me 🤷🏻♀️.
Surprise, surprise, when I touch on a topic that’s not new to someone but is shockingly new to me and I’m so amazed at recently learning about it, they get somewhat offended that I’ve never heard of it. So for the other end, please be open and willing to share, educate, and not treat the others with disbelief and call us ignorant for never hearing about it.
I am a guest in your house. Please welcome me with open arms because I am here to sit at the same table and am also open to sharing the stories of my adventures if you’re interested in hearing about it. ✌🏼☺️]
As you can see... it' been 9 years but I still post as if I blog... so why not start this back up? I look forward to being on here more. And I look forward to the disaster and excitement that this will bring if it starts welcoming any and all backlash. If you know me then you know I'm half-joking but mostly ready.
Thanks for reading.
